ENDURrun goes green, Stage 3 great day

ENDURrun organisers and volunteers are helping to make the 2008 ENDURrun a little greener. All garbage is source separated at the event into compost, recyclables, and otherwise. No disposable dishes either! As if feeding 100 people and organising each day's setup and take down wasn't enough, it is daily fresh food shopping and dishes to wash!

Stage 3 was an exciting day during the 30km trail run at Bechtel Park in Waterloo, Ontario. There were personal victories and downturns. Read the race recap on the website. Steve Formaneck stole the yellow jersey from Bob Jackman, while Joanne Bink keeps hers for the women's event. Mike Strano, a past ENDURrun winner and frequent guest runner, won the overall race today.

09 August 2008

Pre-race meeting tonight, 9th August at 6:00pm at RIM Park.

The race organizers and volunteers look forward to meeting you tonight for the pre-race meeting. You'll meet your fellow contenders, the race oranizers, get your race kit and swag, get last minute briefings. There has been lots of behind-the-scenes planning and meetings, lots of new and exciting things in store, and our entire race crew is eager to begin.

I know that participants who have run this event in the past are nervous, because they know what to expect. And I know that the new participants are nervous, because they don't know what to expect. Heck, I'm even nervous, and I don't have to worry about running 160 KMs in 8 days.

Over the event I will have limited and infrequent access to email. If you do email me, I will respond as soon as I can. You can always reach me at home at (519) 664-1331 if there is any urgency. Or post to the Discussion Forum if appropriate.

It's been wet, bring your boots!

Waterloo Region has been the second wettest region in all of Canada so far this summer. It's been crazy. So far, only Chicopee (Stage 5) seems to be affected. The course was pretty soggy last week, but it should dry out by race day. If not, I'm sure you'll be tough enough. The long range forecast looks favourable for the week, though lightning may add some splash to tonight's pre-race meeting.
